Which Passport?
Hi All,
I have a question about which passport to show at which point. I have lived in the US for about 15 years and last year I applied for and received my US citizenship. I still have my UK passport and not having to give it up was the deciding factor on applying for the US citizenship.
Anyway, I usually travel over for visits every couple off years or so and my next trip is planned for the end of April. I can't wait.... It feels so good to be home. So, since I have two passports now, how and when should I present them while going to the ticket counter and through customs? I have heard some scary stories about the US taking non US passports away. I just don't want to end up without my UK passport.
Thanks for the advice.
Rob.

With the airline, show the passport you intend to use at destination. Usually there's no particular problem with showing both passports to airline staff.
Show a British passport to Home Office officials on arrival in the UK (and the same as the US in reverse - don't lie about being American also, but no need to volunteer it unless asked).
Incidentally, passports are the property of the issuing government and cannot be 'confiscated' by another government. The US are very unlikely to try to confiscate your British passport and if they tried, the British Embassy would be very upset if they found out.
