I'm thinking of buying a iPhone 6+ and also a Mac desktop since my iPad is almost a year old. I've not won any money but I foolish think I can save money by spending money. Figure that one out?

I was at my mother in-laws place in Northern California, until last week, for about a month and it is a royal pain to send messages to this web, or any other, on the iPad.

Cheers

(forgive the grammar, I'm still trying to recover from the recent traveling)

Did you by chance download the new operating system onto your iPad? It's the kiss of death...I'm about ready to throw my iPads in the bin.

If she hasn't already...tell her not to download IOS8. I usually wait a few months before downloading updates...but for some reason I downloaded it as soon as it was available. Apple have had loads of problems and complaints about it. The keyboard is unbelievably slow...the screen keeps freezing and when it frees up all my typing or log ins are lost.

Thanks JG, I'll pass that advice on. I'm a macbook user but I also had my problems with the latest OSX "upgrade". I only fixed it help from the Lab on here.

I still have generation 1 iPad. I use it for my job only but recently wanted program for my kiddos but could not download it as I can only go up to IOS 5.1. It's fine for now though.

Do you think England is heading for another housing boom?
Their crystal ball is no better than mine or yours... 2019 Huhhh...

A housing boom in the UK is usually brought on by such newscasts as people start panic buy, it means they all pay more to go up the ladder, which also means they have less money to spend on other things...

Its not really a good thing unless you are the ones loaning them the money...

Are there any noticeable benefits to iOS8? With iOS7 there was the new "flat" interface, how about 8? Haven't done it yet, but suppose I will eventually as apps upgrade to the new OS.

Tangentially, I notice MS is reintroducing the Start icon in Windows 10, after removing it in Windows 8 (there isn't a Windows 9 ...). Why they ever removed it in the first place I don't know.

These Tech companies are just making changes for changes' sake these days. They just need to slow down and realise that 99% of the population doesn't need a new operating system, or if they do, it's not in such a hurry that they have to release it before they know it works and is acceptable to users.

No Windows 9 because when they were trying it, it kept assuming it was a Windows 98 update, and caused loads of bugs etc, so they changed the name to Windows 10.

Windows 8 was just an unmitigated disaster IMHO. It was designed for mobile phone users who were happy to just swipe across the screen but when on laptops and desktops it was pretty much unusable. My Mothers pc needed to be replaced as she had windows XP and her machine was just crawling along but all we could find was laptops/pc's with Windows 8. I had to upload 8.1 immediately which at least allowed us to default her to the desk top that was recognisable to her and ignore the silly swiping and silly squares!! Many corporate users refused point blank to use Windows 8 - staying with 7 and I believe that and the amount of complaints they have received re 8 is why they are going back to the desktops with the Start Icon.

My employer (university) won't support Windows 8.
