Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up
I was thinking of you this week because I just got back from Chico, Paradise, California. The weather was perfect and warm. I had to drive 756 miles yesterday to get home. Down the I-5 to Bakersfield then Barstow to Las Vegas and on north
Cheers

Hello Charleygirl/Lestergirl,
a bit belatedly, replying to say my heart goes out to you with this being torn between the countries--I too have adult kids in the US, tho by January it will be only 1 out of 3, the other two will be in Europe.
Obviously, as your story shows, plans don't have to be set in stone....You needed to be in the UK for a while, and to be there for your Mum, and just to see how it went...the whole experience has surely been worthwhile.
All the very best for your move back again, and I hope you'll come back on here and keep us posted.
Mummy in the Foothills, golly, I do hope your stuff shows up soon!! Good luck with that....

I haven't started yet. Still doing the paperwork and have to do an orientation day too. Secretly I'm hoping I start in the new year so I can be here at home for my first Christmas back in 17 years.
Got a phone call this afternoon, they have our stuff and are delivering next tuesday. Can't wait. You watch it'll be raining and freezing.

I felt wonderful three years ago when I finally came home and spent my first Christmas in England for 36 years, wow it was so good!!!! and every one since,
Christmas is great when you are with your family ------- wherever you are living in the world, as long as your family is with you then Christmas really means something,

I never had gravy on chips in England, I think its more of a northern thing, I maybe wrong, but all this talk about gravy on bread and on chips reminds me of an American dish I used to love now and then when I used to go into a cafe or casino restaurant in Nevada, an open faced hot steak sandwich was always on the menu, it was an 8 ounce steak served on top of two slices of bread, with chips and all covered in brown gravy emmmm Lovely, and also dont forget the well known american pleasure ---- biscuits & country gravy.

Then you would like Adelaide's pie floater.

I've had just one but didn't like the taste of the mushy peas.

When it comes to fish & chip shops, the fish in most places Ive been in are to die for but the chips are always just half cooked & limp & soft
So what I do whenever I fancy fish & Chips I just buy the fish at the chippy, and I just buy oven chips and pop em in oven and cook em nicely golden brown ----- the way chips should be cooked,
