I was thinking of you this week because I just got back from Chico, Paradise, California. The weather was perfect and warm. I had to drive 756 miles yesterday to get home. Down the I-5 to Bakersfield then Barstow to Las Vegas and on north

Cheers

Hello Charleygirl/Lestergirl,

a bit belatedly, replying to say my heart goes out to you with this being torn between the countries--I too have adult kids in the US, tho by January it will be only 1 out of 3, the other two will be in Europe.

Obviously, as your story shows, plans don't have to be set in stone....You needed to be in the UK for a while, and to be there for your Mum, and just to see how it went...the whole experience has surely been worthwhile.

All the very best for your move back again, and I hope you'll come back on here and keep us posted.

Mummy in the Foothills, golly, I do hope your stuff shows up soon!! Good luck with that....

I haven't started yet. Still doing the paperwork and have to do an orientation day too. Secretly I'm hoping I start in the new year so I can be here at home for my first Christmas back in 17 years.

Great news Pauline. glad they found your stuff, I bet thats a big worry off your mind, ----- about your upcoming job, yes it would be ideal if you could start in the new year, ----- after missing 17 Christmas days and boxing days I figure you really deserve a nice UK Christmas,
I felt wonderful three years ago when I finally came home and spent my first Christmas in England for 36 years, wow it was so good!!!! and every one since,
Christmas is great when you are with your family ------- wherever you are living in the world, as long as your family is with you then Christmas really means something,

I know my sister likes that sandwich minus the gravy, Ive seen it on the menu but never tried it.

I've had just one but didn't like the taste of the mushy peas.

It doesnt look appealing to me at all, I like just a few peas not a whole bowl of them, Im sure many people Love it...

Just dont have them with gravy if you dont want them soggy :)

Chips from fish and chip shops in England already tend to be too soft.

I wonder if they taste any different in other parts of the UK (Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland) & what about the price range (Hi-Lo) in different regions?

Oh its so good to know there is at least one other person on here that like there chips nicely golden brown and a little on the crispy side ---- american style!!!!
When it comes to fish & chip shops, the fish in most places Ive been in are to die for  but the chips are always just half cooked & limp & soft
So what I do whenever I fancy fish & Chips I just buy the fish at the chippy, and I just buy oven chips and pop em in oven and cook em nicely golden brown ----- the way chips should be cooked, :D

When I was there this summer the price seemed to be consitent which was about £5.
