Hi Rodney, thanks for asking, yes, we are both well and mostly healthy. Happiness, sure, I can do that.
We will stay in UK, no desire to move back to US or to anywhere else. Might move house or area, but to where we don't know. Maybe the urge to move is an itch that can still be temporarily scratched by taking trips around UK and the world.

Overseas Aid ? I would point the finger at that nonsense called Trident ! scrap it and spend the money on building up conventional defences ! And there would be loads left over for the NHS !

Always lovely to see you pop back in, John. You sound more settled and I am happy to hear that. We plan to be in Norwich by December. I am determined to have a British Christmas this year.

Hi Monique,
I hope you make it back for Christmas. In our 6 yrs back I have known it to be snowing in Norwich at Christmas, but another year to be sunny and warmish.
We will be in Norwich weekend of 17th Dec., maybe we will see you both., that would be nice.
Our Christmas though will be on a river cruise in Germany & France, just for a change.
Best, John & June

We will be sure to let you know when we arrive. I won't mind a bit of snow one bit if it's on offer! A river cruise sounds like a wonderful idea. That's on my bucket list. Best wishes to you both. ~M

 What IS going on over there? I'm starting to think I needn't worry about reverse culture shock since the UK has adopted so many of the US's zany habits and crackpot ideas :sneaky:

I fully expect to see TESCO and other supermarkets in Uk selling handguns and automatics. That will complete our Americanisation.

I would scrap overseas aid, too much of it goes to lining politicians pockets, building things that are NOT needed instead of improving the lot of the ordinary citizens, keep it in the UK and use it to help fund the NHS and police.

Housing isn't finalised yet (rental application is in) but we're looking at a short rail commute from Tyne Valley over the river into Newcastle - handy for hubby and minutes away from "shop til you drop" for me :p

Do you mean near the Metro Centre rail station on the Tyne Valley Line?

Wrong side of the tracks*. :sneaky:

*"tracks" in this case being the River Tyne.

You'd be 5-6 miles from where I live, depending on which bridge you use.

Good luck with the rental application.

Now why did I know you were going to say that?

FWIW Longbenton was a close contender but I got used to those lovely rural views during all those trips across the A69 over the summer. Thanks for the good wishes, hopefully we get good news soon.

If you are due to leave for Bermuda over the w/e, I would check with the cruise line. There is a hurricane in the Atlantic.

Northumberland by a cat's whisker but with our luck, I'm afraid to say more for fear I'll jinx the whole thing.

We boarded the ship at the New York, Manhattan Cruise Terminal, and when they had finished loading the passengers the captain came on the PA and announced that we were not going to Bermuda because of the hurricane. He said they were checking for other ports that they could go to.
We ended up going to Port Canaveral in Florida and then to the Caribbean for a few hours. What a rip off!
The cruise ship people gave a warning to the passengers to not go far from the ship because there had been a spike in crime against tourists in recent times. This was the port of Nassau. I'm sure that was British until they became independent a few years ago and I think it has gone down hill ever since.
We did a sightseeing tour of New York after we returned which I liked.

Cheers

Rodney, I'm trying to contact my cousin in the Isle of Wight but they have a different number.
Any ideas?
Also how is the train/bus service from Gatwich to Southampton?

Cheers

PS Hope I didn't wake anyone up!
