Re: OVER 50's & 60's Chit-Chat & Daily Catch-Up Thread
Think you are correct Bandrui...seems from what is reported that Will has a great relationship with Kate's family. It was said on one of the news programs that Prince Charles told Kate, that she was the daughter he never had.
I thought the wedding a lovely event and her wedding dress suited her to a "T". Such a beautiful bride. Will and Kate seem to be very much in love, good looking couple and seems the public is quite taken by the pair. I have to admit at times I was a bit weepy while watching the event yesterday. And was just utterly amazed by the vast amount of people/crowds that showed up as well. Put a smile on my face, that's for sure. Wish I could have been there.
Kate's parents/sister also received very good reviews by the press...seems they handled all pretty well.
I so enjoyed the hats!! Some were smashing and others like the hat(??) that one of Fergie's daughters was wearing left me in amazement! Reminded me of antlers or that a mirror should have been in the front of that thing. But good for them, they're young and just being their young selves I guess...or maybe tried to cause a little strife for their grandmother??
Can anyone tell me how some of these women kept these hats on their heads...the ones that either sat directly on their foreheads or fully on the side of one's head? How on earth would one keep it fixed to the forehead or directly on the side? Glue...tape?? Anyone know?
I even watched the rerun late last night on MSNBC!!

As for Princes Beatrice's hat (I think she was the one with the hat that looked like antlers) I was talking to one of my American friends yesterday - this lady loves everything British and watched the wedding. She suggested to me that perhaps Fergie's daughters were upset that their mum wasn't invited and decided to wear those absolutely ridiculous hats to draw attention to themselves. TBH, I am not sure this is true. I think they just liked them!! The "antler" hat really did look rather ridiculous!!

As for the hats Chris, there was a milliner on the TV and he said they have little metal clips on them which fix into the hair. My mum wore a fascinator for my nephew's wedding recently and the hairdresser put it in for her when she got her hair done.
Maybe the society ladies hire a hat fixer specialist.

And Bee...Tally Ho! on the M56....look out England here she comes!!
You'll do fine...I'm sure of it.

You're not the only one who was weepy!! I sat on my sofa with a box of Kleenex nearby!!

Well folks I am back!!!
Not too bad at all, just one little blip on a roundabout when I was in the wrong lane.
I drove to Wilmslow which is where I should be moving to next week as a kind of dummy run.
I ended up driving all around these country lanes, beautiful little villages, country pubs and so on, it's much easier being a passenger of course as you get to look properly. Wow some of those lanes were narrow!!
An absolutely beautiful sunny day here, green fields, cows and sheep in the meadows, a perfect English spring day though I have noticed the flowers are beginning to fade and droop.
I then found a Waitrose in Wilmslow (pretty expensive ) and bought a sandwich, some fruit and a bottle of water and went and sat in a park and ate my lunch and read the Sunday paper.
A nice little free magazine too with all the wedding pics.

Bee...I had seen on Facebook some of my 'friends'..using the word 'fascinator' and had no idea what they were going on about and just thought they were trying to be their American so-called clever (??) selves. So here I am still learning about new fashions and new words!
And Bee...Tally Ho! on the M56....look out England here she comes!!

If you are in the US watch out for the People magazine for a lot of good photos. Its a pity Rosie wasn't allowed to take her great pictures of the wedding.
Barbara, sounds like you had the day we dream about. Park, sandwiches, Sunday paper, ride in the country, yaaaaaaaaa!

Did anyone else think that Camilla looked like she was going to burst into tears throughout the whole thing? I don't mean tears of joy, she looked quite miserable, I thought. I wonder if there were some feelings of guilt or regret - I mean the whole Diana/Camilla thing was pretty tawdry (though I believe she has a pretty good relationship with William and Harry).

What I found funny they had a London hatmaker (or whatever they are called) being interviewed at some point while I have been watching (on just about every channel so no Idea which I was on) The American interviewer called them fascinators and the UK hatmaker said that in the UK they are known as a head piece, so now I have no idea, which is the right one.
Oh I may be confused too, I know they are called fascinators in Australia, and I am 99% sure that's what my mum called them when she was getting one for the wedding.
Maybe it's the upper crust who call them head pieces, you know the way they say lavatory not toilet, couch not sofa, etc..........

I thought so, too. I guess fashion is pretty subjective, but I hope they didn't spend too much on those outfits - something from Marks and Spencers would have looked better. (Bloody hell, I'm sounding like one of those snidey fashion posers, not sure what's going on there).

One newspaper said they were waiting for the panto dame to turn up as these two looked like they were auditioning for the Ugly Sisters.
Maybe Camilla feels the vibes from everybody as she knows she is not the most popular member of the family, though people have mellowed to her over the years it will never be forgotten that she was the 3rd person in the marriage of Charles and Diana.
I noticed her ex husband in the congregation too, aren't they just so civilized these Royals???

It was all very prosperous housing with lots of prestige convertibles driving around.
