We are having an amazingly mild winter, already it feels like spring and today the sun is shining on my nice new oak hardwood floors and I will be working in the garden in a T shirt! Finishing off shoveling 2 yards of fish compost around my garden beds today! That is all the shoveling we have had to do this winter!

Crazy! Hard to imagine such a mild winter in Canada since the NE US has been slammed by the worst winter weather on record! Actually very glad to be in Florida for once.

So far Boston - rightly in the news for their five footer but remaining in the news since - has had around 260cm of snow.

Moncton, NB (East side of Canada) has had 370cm. That's where the should be.

Google is your friend Rodney But I have to agree with you - I have a hard time translating from the metric off the top of my head. So Google has informed me that: 260cm=102.362 inches; 370cm=145.669 inches. Now I suppose you'll want me to turn that into feet? Sure, happy to oblige: 8.6 ft and 12 ft

The view from our top step. The snowbanks are actually higher now. Passing vehicles can now only be seen through the break where the end of the drive has been cleared. Even from this elevated position the snowbanks hide them.

Like us, his front door is at the top of his steps several feet higher than the drive.

A quick (rough) mental arithmetic conversion is to take metres, multiply by 3 and add 10%.

For example 2.60 metres x 3 = 7.80 add .78 gives you 8.6 feet.

WOW thats a lot of snow, I used to live in Toronto but the snow there was never as bad as some other parts of Canada,
The most snow in any place I lived was Lake Tahoe, and the coldest temp that I ever experienced was right there in Tahoe, 29 below, but in some eastern parts of Canada OMG ----- 50 or 60 below yep that deserves 3 or 4 of them things

OK all you snow height geeks: I lived, for one winter only, in the UP (that translates to the Upper Peninsular of Michigan, on the south shore of Lake Superior) where the average winter provided 300 inches of snow fall. There were notices on the top of all public buildings to 'Watch for falling snow'; best clothes were flannel shirts, jeans covered by snow pants, heavy rubber boots, two layers of socks, Thermolite gloves, scarf, and 'Dickies' jackets. There is even a type of hat whose name evades me just now, that has ear flaps, and was created and is still made in the UP. No, it's not the remnants of an animal on top of your head (thought I have seen that) nor is it a Russian hat. Anyhow, back to the story. The average single snowfall was a few feet, and when there were 8 inches of snow on top of my car, someone remarked that we had had 'a light dusting the previous night'. The UPers talked about snow storms as the three day storms: the day before it came, the day it came, and the day it left. I guess it's just your perspective whether it's a deep snow or not. It it's more than a half inch here, it's a blizzard...
