Our shipping decisions begin. Help!!

Our shipping decisions begin. Help!!
I'll have my breakdown now please.
I thought we had it sorted we'd use the U-crates from UpakWeship. But they are turning out not to be as cheap or convenient as I had thought.
Dh has work tools and boxes, must haves, he has to work.
So I now am emailing about looking for reputable international shippers.
Started reading the boards over on movingscam.com to see what reccs they have, Reinier seems to have loads of good outcomes, and they email back pretty quick. Schumacker emailed quick and played email tag and phone tag for a day, then radio silence since.
I've emailed Allied and United last night so we'll see.
Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?
I need to get some quotes and then when we have the date, get them to update it and book it.
Just reading over on movingscams is making me want to bury myself in the quilt and forget life. So much to learn, and remember to ask and include in the price.

Allied's system is down and she didn't even offer to take my phone number and have someone call me back. I'll give them one more shot later or tomorrow.
I'll try United next.
I'll keep you posted on my findings. Would love to hear success stories from anyone else!!!

Re: Our shipping decisions begin. Help!!
I want in on this thread!!! I had an immediate response from Crown Relocation who partner with wheatonworldwide.com (recommended in another thread but can't remember where). They forwarded my info to the local people to contact me for an estimate. That was a week ago. I have emailed and just called. I was told the local company is supposed to contact me within 24 hrs. Fingers crossed I hear from them today or I will be moving on.

Mummy, we are considering upakweship's Ucrates as well. What has made you change your mind about them? Reading their site, they supposedly have a fixed price for a Ucrate to Scotland. Is that not the case?

They are being really nice answering lots of questions.
We are looking at U-Boxes, they deliver them here and we get to take our time packing them, Dh has his work tools we were worried about weight and sturdiness etc etc. But they have now quoted $2737 door to door, they come pick up the boxes once packed. Thats 3 boxes 150 cubic feet total. (I think we might need more space than that.)
They said if you spread the weight between the three it's fine.
Still waiting on other quotes.
I've been reading on webscams and in Europe they switch over to EuroUSA and theres some bad reviews, makes me wonder how many happy customers there are verses the unhappy. Usually to do with delays, and extra fees at the other end.

We are part of the UniGroup Relocation network, which is the parent company of United (And Mayflower) for overseas moves so they handle most of our moves into and out of the USA and do a great job.

Re: Our shipping decisions begin. Help!!
We used Rainier and were happy with them. I can PM you more details if you like. The packing crew in CA were very efficient but barely spoke any English and I don't speak Spanish so that caused some fun and games. It was also very interesting reading their descriptions of what was in each box......my son's trombone was labelled as a violin!

Rainier were very good at emailing back but they have now said they don't have an agent anywhere near us, so said that we'd have to transport our stuff to their nearest warehouse, it's about 2 hours away.
Upak is winning so far. They seem to make it all very easy We'd do the u-box because to use the u-crate we'd have to take everything to them and they are just over an hour away and the stuff is heavy we'd need to hire a U-haul. The boxes come to us to pack at our leisure.
Still waiting to hear from United.
I did the request for info on the Unigroup site.

Today I have called Allied (still having system problems), North American Van Lines and I have submitted a request to Rainier based on what has been said here and on movingscam.com

So long as you don't use Wridgeways as per Miss Betty LOL. I know choosing someone can be daunting, because you worry over them taking care of all your precious items. Would they pack it well (if they pack the items), do they take care when handling the items, and most importantly WILL IT GET THERE IN ONE PIECE !
So I'm sending you positive thoughts that someone will return your calls and they'll be just what you need at the price you want!

Crown called, they are working out a rough quote but will need to come visit to look if it's what we are interested, very nice lady on the phone.
Then 5 minutes later Bekins called, (are they part of Unigroup I'm loosing track) they were nice too and are coming to look next thursday, the warehouse is only about 45 mins away so not too far.
The quote came from Reinier and if the others don't come close it may well be worth the drive to drop off to their warehouse and let them do some re packing and pack it all in a 200 cubic foot lift van and deliver to our UK door.
I just checked it was Crown that is the partner or parent or some such. So Bekins are part of Crown it was them who passed out call for a quote on.
We'll see the Bekins/Crown man next week.

I still haven't heard from Crown which is very disappointing as they've got good reviews but it will be hard to use them if they won't come to my house!
Allied are coming tomorrow, North American are coming on Monday. If those two quotes are close then I'll pick one.
I am really struggling with what to take and what not to take. I love my stuff. I want it all but the price will be the big decider on how much I love it!
