Re: Onepearlyb update
Hey pearl, good to hear from you, hang in there, i am in scotland just now, with one week left to go before returning to the land that time forgot, am absolutely dread going back:(, it has confirmed with me 110% that i want to return.
I too can see how bad the recession is, but it still doesnt stop me wanting to be here. |
Re: Onepearlyb update
Thank you for your post - I am in the process of researching returning back to UK -
I guess these are some reality checks I need too:( think about. Wishing you and your family all the best in settling down soon. |
Re: Onepearlyb update
Hi all,
Just a quick update. Still no luck with finding a job for hubbie. Just need to get him sorted and I will apply in the same area as I'm a nurse. We spent last week driving up and down the M1 for job interviews but then discovered they wouldn't negotiate on his wage even tho they admitted he was over qualified for the role. SO, we are back to square one and have extended the job search to cover the north AND south of the country. We have until April 3rd as that's when our holiday let lease runs out. But we will need to know where we are headed about 2 weeks before that so we can start looking for a short term rental. VERY tricky at the moment. Thank G we had savings! *pearly* |

Re: Onepearlyb update
Hi Gelong Gent,
Hope you and your family are all doing well. Where to start!?? We now both have jobs at last, although we haven't actually started yet. Hubbie should start next week and I'm still waiting to receive my contract in the post. I've managed to secure a temporary contract up until August. Hopefully I'll be kept on after that. We've moved around A LOT since we arrived as we haven't been able to secure a rental property until only recently, so we've flitted from hotels, to B&B's to holiday let accomodation, back to hotels and then back to a holiday let again!! I think because we're looking for a 4 month rental so that we can buy a place quickly ( hopefully ) the rental agents have been reluctant to help us. They want a minimum of 6 months in most cases. We managed to get a 4 month rental because we've paid everything in advance. We also found it tricky to get somewhere that would accept the dog which is always a pain wherever you are. So we move out of our holiday let this Friday and into a short term rental on Friday. Been quite exciting going out and buying new furniture.Loving that bit!! ;o) Still happy to be back. SOOOOO much choice. I agree with past returnees observations when they've said they felt overwhelmed initially by the supermarkets here. Looking over the aisles and checkouts from the 1st floor in Asda or Tesco really is a sight to see!! ( but do we REALLY need all that food and so many items??? Makes me think. ) Yes, I do miss parts of my Melbourne life.Mainly the routine I had and the sunshine - but almost immediately I recall the tough times, of which there were many. I don't know if I could have stayed much longer because I was finding my life harder to cope with mainly due to existing health concerns. I think if I didn't have that ball and chain, I'd have one less reason to come back so perhaps it'd have been easier to stay longer???? Can't answer that one. I don't believe we were ever there to stay forever in the first place. I feel content with being back. Daily life is smoother. Familiarities make it all easier. Family have already spent a weekend with us and we loved it! I love the food, fashion, style, house styles, design and general openness in people here. I'm in a nice area of the country - York, so the countryside is stunning, the town is always buzzing and there's always something going on there whether musical, historical or cultural. But, I don't want to paint one big rosey picture because it isn't all like that of course. The recession has hit Britain hard!!! Although it's a good time to buy property, sellers are VERY reluctant to even drop their prices by small ammounts so as a result the market is stagnant. We were offered a mortgage in principal before we even had jobs would you believe!! So, for anyone returning, don't believe the hype about it being harder to get a mortgage now. Total rubbish, that one! They practically THREW it at us! Hopefully, the next time I email we'll have bought a house. If there is anyone out there looking for current info here in Britain, then just drop me an email. Hope you are ALL well and happy wherever you are. Thanks for enquiring GG and thanks for reading, everyone else. *pearly* |

So we didn't bother, houses too over priced still. Also we got a morgage offer with Halifax bank. We are self-employed with no references or prove of income, so god knows how we managed to get a morgage either hahaha. All we need to do now is find a house, but finding them all over priced and too small. Anyway, i'm still loving being back too, no regrets at all and living the life i always wanted to. All the best Pearly and Co....keep in touch:):) |
Re: Onepearlyb update
