I’m sure this question has been asked many times, found threads relating to US to UK but not NZ.

Has anyone successfully opened a UK bank acc from NZ before they arrived in the UK?

I used HSBC Premier which allows overseas account opening and is probably the easiest route. If you don't want to go with HSBC, you can always open a 'Wise' account as a stopgap until you are settled. They are not only a currency transfer service but they will give you a a multicurrency account for use with a debit card.
