Culktybraggan ! I had a summer job in the NAAFI. In darker times it was a camp for German POWs. rather brutal murder there led to 5 Germans being executed for staging a court martial and killing one of their comrades.

Wow, interesting!

I looked up the article about it on Wikipedia and was interested to learn about the Grade II listed Nissan huts etc. Thank god they will be preserved in perpetuity! And yes, the POW camp history was very interesting.

I remember the Church of Scotland Canteen there, where we used to go in the evening to get a drink and a fried egg sandwich. Would that be the same as the NAAFI? Also remember the food we were served, the bacon and eggs at breakfast being drowned in watery tinned tomatoes, and of course the strange tasting tea (supposedly laced with bromide to suppress sexual urges..)

Well then there were the highland clearances; a lot of Scots folk never got to see the high road to England, they shipped straight out to Canada or Australia from Scottish ports.
