Actually yes, in the part of the UK we were staying, they have admitted to me that they have little experience so I am to bear with them as they figure out how to treat him. The US is different and it was there that I was educated and equipped to handle a crisis. However with a fever, a child MUST always be admitted to A and E for precaution. Usually within a couple of hours, he is well enough to be discharged but due to their lack of experience with sickle cell, they wanted to run more tests and I was informed that it would take hours to receive results so he must stay in. I was later informed by them that they had over reacted due an inaccurate oxygen reading later on. Having experienced this many more times than they had, I knew my son was well enough to leave. Had we been in the US, we would have been sent home sooner.

I certainly would never put money before his life and you obviously have little knowledge of how much it costs to adopt a child in the first place!

...... and you would have had a large bill too for your emergency treatment, even without an overnight stay.

There have been quite a few threads recently where people have been shocked to find that the NHS are now finally checking who has to be billed.

The having to pay the NHS bill before they can return to the UK is also catching many out: they didn't realise that the NHS now gives UKVI the details of the debtors.

You've beaten me to it JG. I was just coming along to do the exact same thing.

There has been a bit of a trend of late to seek to target & almost lambast those posters that write to BE with queries and questions regarding the NHS, NHS charges and/or existing medical conditions. To take the automatic standpoint that the poster must be seeking in some way to deliberately gain for free, something to which they are not entitled to.

In the last three threads where the subject of the NHS has been raised & where it has been necessary for a mod to moderate, this has not been the case at all . The opening posters have simply been seeking information and clarification . That is all.

BE is really about caring and sharing isn't it? I thought it was anyway. We do not walk in each other shoes & I am sure that none of us would enjoy being picked apart as a person, have our integrity questioned, for simply asking a question.

If we could just remember that we are all a part of the same community and treat each other with the respect that we would wish for ourselves that would be just grand.

For those of you for whom the NHS is your specialist subject, I would suggest that perhaps you could write an article for BE and also add your knowledge to the MBTTUK Wiki.
