New UK State Pension

Re: New UK State Pension
Sort of - there's still a lot of people on telly chanting sour grapes.
Tommy Sheridan is being a complete plank.
Nicola Sturgeon is saying that Scotland will be independent when enough people "have been persuaded" that it is best for Scotland. Whatever happened to free will and democracy?
There's a definite air that "No" voters have let the side down, been unpatriotic, etc.
Essentially, the winners are being fairly low-key, the losers are being very vocal.

It's obvious to most people that it is. Did you think it is just a coincidence that the new state pension is set above the cap for claiming Pension Credit?
The new state pension has been set to ensure that it is over the income for people to claim the welfare payment Pension Credit, which will then passport them to other benefits. Parliament already have changes in place for those who hoped to claim PC under savings.
Changes too if one partner is not of pension age.
No more claiming a UK state pension based on the contributions of a partner either.
This new state pension is all part of this governments (and the last) plan to reduce the ever growing welfare bill that the UK can no longer afford

The score card ...1-0 for the Government vs the People & as always the government plays with the numbers by moving the benefits from one pot to the other. My guess is the total welfare bill wont change much.
More state pension = less pension credit - with the total amount paid out likely will be the same as it is now under the old plan... then again, its a wait & see.
All other benefits lumped into one 'Universal credit' along with [and/or] the 'Personal Independence Payment' (PIP). At least hopefully an administration savings.
Work in progress for sure ....

Take in Leek as well, if you can. A bit further north, but a very nice town.

Have they started taking catch up payments for the extra five years? I've paid up 30 years to date.

Yes, I think they are. My OH has five years to pay too. We rang them a couple of weeks ago and they are sending him a statement which they say will indicate whether and how he can pay.
