My British passport nearly due for renewal
Hi,
I've been resident in north Texas for almost 8 years. My status is
Permanent Resident Alien, and I have a green card and Social Security
number. I own the house I
live in; no criminal record or anything.
Now, my British passport's due for renewal in May of next year.Where do I go
in this area to get it renewed? Haven't been able to track down a
British consulate around here. Will I have to send the damn thing to
Britain for renewal, or is there somewhere in Texas that would do it?
Ta for any information.

Have a look here:

I got a new British passport when I lived in New York, and as far as I can remember I did it via post to Washington DC.

one small addition, likely the OP will have to physically fly to the embassy in
Washington and in person, apply for the passport due to the new biometric
requirements.
the embassy can assist with more details and current information, just a phone call
away...

You don't go anywhere in your area. You get your PP from the British Embassy in Washington DC. http://www.britainusa.com. It'll run you $250 + $15 for the FedEx back to you. I just renewed my UK passport a couple of weeks ago... took about 3 weeks from start to finish. You will need to send original documentation, but it will all be returned to you.

Re: My British passport nearly due for renewal
The reply is from Dean Churm the consul in Orlando
Thank you for your questions. There is quite a lot of work going on behind the scenes to determine how we will provide passport services under the new arrangements. As you have surmised, there is nothing set in stone yet, but options are being worked through and we are expecting a decision on the way ahead to be made towards the end of the year. It is clear though that there will be some changes, and it is likely that you will be required to go to a consulate to provide biometric information or to attend an interview if you are a first time applicant. Once the details are known, I'll post them on the Consulate's website at www.britainusa.com/orlando and on this forum.

Thanks for all the info ; just what I needed. The lady who comes in on
Friday mornings to do paperwork, bookkeeping etc for me (My eyesight
went away some few years ago so I have to pay people to do things, see)
is going to track down a phone
number or some kind of contact point for the British Embassy and I'll
take it from there. It does seem that maybe the new fancy passports
details are not quite finalized yet though, so there could be some
delay. Life never used to be this
complicated....

Indeed - whatever happened to "Let me through, I'm British"? It
doesn't seem to work quite as well as it used to ...

By God, yes, these were the days: you just slapped down the passport,
shouted at the official to stamp the damned thing and look sharp about
it, and there was always a servile porter waiting to take your baggage
to the train, boat or car, too.
Things've not been the same since that blasted Socialist lot got in
in '45.

If these colonial buggers give you any kind of trouble, take it up
immediately with the British High Commission in Washington DC!
