Moving to wales

Hello all!
Moved to Canada 15 y ago with Canadian husband and now we want to move to Wales (Aberystwyth area). Will the natives be friendly? We are both about 55 and will be retired or at most working part time.

Aberystwyth is a beautiful area, stunning scenery, although a bit of a windy drive to get there.

Locals are extremely friendly. (I might add I don't live there but know somebody who does. :))

Oh and welcome to BE :)

The locals are friendly there so long as you are too it has a lot of Uni students from all over so it's more used to non locals moving in. I do find that there are some smaller villages that are not so friendly unless you can speak Welsh. The more Welsh you speak the better they seem to like you

Thanks!
I do plan to learn some Welsh but it's not an easy language. Please is 'os gwelwch yn dda' for example.
I am hoping to take a course when I get there.
We are hoping to buy a house in a remote location as my (Canadian) husband needs the space. I too am waiting for the new immigration rules as my husband will need a visa (we actually married in England and have been married >15 years). I also find the government website confusing.

Why are you waiting for the change in the rules? I would have though it would be better to apply now, before those changes take place.

Ok, although it'll probably mean 5 years of residency before your husband is able to obtain permanent residency, presuming there's an allowance for retired/semi-retired people under the new rules as so far there has been quite a bit of focus on minimum income of the British spouse/sponsor.

Re: Moving to wales

Hey guys:) Just thought id ad my 2pence worth about the WELSH thing.
I live in Wales nr-Swansea and as a non welsh speaker who is half italian half welsh i find it strange to hear of people who think that a native people who speak the native tongue welsh/french/italian or whatever are considerd not friendly:confused: All the people of Wales speak English but half can speak Welsh. So the next time you visit this beautifull country or any other exiting country that speaks a diffrent language to you think this... Maybee it is your attitude that is unfriendly towards people with the intelect to speak more than 1 language.
Don't get me wrong there is always going to be rude people where ever you go in the world and there are a few here in Wales but i assure you they are not being rude as they speak welsh as that is as stupid as saying that all of the Italians are rude as they were speaking Italian when you walked into the local store or were rude as they were speaking Italian sitting around the Trevi fountain in Rome. Next time you go to Wales try a bit of welsh and if it flops so what the locals are friendly and they are educated enough to speak English also. Thanks/Diolch
p.s. just mention the rugby a sure way to put a smile on any Welshmans face:thumbsup:
