Moving USD to the UK and other thigs
I am a dual citizen of UK and USA. Been in California 14 years. Divorced now and nothing to keep me here. I am think about going home to England to be with my family again.
Quick questions:
1. If I take over $100,000 USD to the UK, will I get taxed? Or is there an easy way to get it back home?
2. My mini Aussie is 13 years old. Too old to fly home to England? Anyone use a company to get a dog back?
The main reasons for moving back are going to be lack of vacation, healthcare and the cost of living in California in the bay area. But, mostly I look forward to being with my family again and plntyful holidays abroad around Europe. Going on holiday in the USA is so expensive compared to what you get in Europe.
I know it will be a big adjustment, and I am sure I will get depressed at some point. But I am not totally happy here either. Did anyone go see a therapist to help with the returning home adjustment?
The good thing is I have my USA Citizenship and passport. So I can always return if needed and have goo friends here who would help me.

No tax on money that you import. You may be asked to show where it has come from.

2. The life expectancy for Australian Shepherds is 13-15 years. Ask a vet for an opinion as to whether it's worth the significant costs.
Incidentally, this thread is in the wrong part of the forum. A passing moderator will move it to MBTTUK main section.

We moved over $300k to the UK last year from our US accounts to buy a house. Very easy to do and no tax implications. Proof of where it came from was satisfied by pdfs of statements from our bank and brokerage accounts.

Remember, all that matters is the rate when you exchange it, weirdly, the big online brokers arent the best value in the uk, its the london based cash fx dealers who can save you significant sums. Martins money website has a tool to confirm the best rates for foreign cash. Actually there are a myriad of reasons why people coming to the uk should be using this site.

We use Transferwise usually but for a large sum like this we got a good rate and it felt a lot safer (it was certainly quick, money transferred within an hour).

To get our dog over to the UK we are taking the Cunard cruise ship out of NY to Southampton. This prevents us having to sedate him and put him in cargo (which we would never do) and a more pleasant ride leaving the States for all of us. They have kennels where you can visit them, walk them etc.,
