Has anyone used international moving services (sea freight) to move your boxes/furniture from USA to the UK? If so, did they charge you any extra amount on top of the initial quote (e.g. hidden costs like sea freight customs, docking fee, loading fee, etc.)? Were there any damages to the goods?
We are shipping a few boxes and some baby furniture. Are there alternative modes for shipping these items?

The nature of sea freight is that there is always the possibility of additional customs charges.
It is likely for "a few boxes and some baby furniture" that airfreight may be as cheap. When I have shipped a few boxes (less than one 4ftx3ft pallet, UK->US) I just used a freight forwarder, a local shipping agent.
Google <"freight forwarder", Your city, Your state> (without the < >
and look for one that does domestic service, not all do, and you will probably have to phone them to discuss what you actually need shipped.

When we used sea freight to move back to the UK the actual cost was a little higher than that quoted because the weight of goods was not known until the packed container was weighed. I was actually impressed at how close the actual cost was to the quote, a testament to the ability of the estimator who visited us to inventory what we were taking.
