moving boxes UK

Just noticed a post in another forum, and have a similar problem.

Moving boxes are really expensive here. Anyone know where to get boxes from in the UK now. We are moving again and I don't have a friendly ralphs or albertsons person here as I did in the US.

Presently near Slough in Berkshire.

Moving again? Ohh err :p

And err...try the post office? ain't there a UPS store in Slough that would have boxes? Probably one in Windsor...and the grocery stores are pretty good if you go out back and ask for the crate boxes, well the sainsburys in Staines was helpful for boxes when I was lugging shite back from uni.

If you're in the UK, check out Argos - honestly! They have moving packs of various sizes etc. I think there was a pack of 5 "tea-chest" size boxes for £25 in there.

There's Mailboxes Etc. and similar stores (UK branches of American chains) that sell boxes and packaging materials. Have you tried them or are they the ones that are expensive?

Alternatively, what about asking your local off license for their empty boxes? They might be a little small but those kind of boxes are probably quite sturdy. I know in the US, my coworkers went to the nearby ABC store to get boxes for moving purposes.

Thanks all for your replies... :D

Being very strapped for cash, and hubby being made redundant means it's the local off license (for boxes only ;) ) and just thought of Budgens too... :D

With 6 of us to pack up, thats a load of boxes!

Cheers....

No darlin... Moving to a smaller house/shed we can afford on my NHS nurse wages, that will just about hold 6 people.... LOL

Sounds awful, but in reality.. Hubby has work till July. We have to move begining of July...Soooo....

We rent a pokey house for as cheap as we can find just in case he doesn't find work, then we will manage on my wage for a while. If he gets a job then we stay there 6 months and save enough for a deposit and buy our own house... (Hopefully) :o

Hubby is tinkering with the househusband idea... I am beating him regularly back into reality... :D

So your thinking of going back then..... Wonderful!!!! When? :)

Another one to try, the student bar at Hollow Way, I know they had tonnes of the buggers at Brunel bar, but I think that's long closed...oh, and the hardware store in Egham, by the roundabout, they use to have loads of large boxes they would give out if you asked.

I'm looking at moving back this summer. My contract that I had when I came over didn't work out so now I am working on my MBA. We've been here 18 months and we've had our ups and downs of course but the kids really miss their Dad so I think it would be fair to them to move back so that they can see him more often. Besides I do miss the lifestyle and at least over there I know I can afford to buy a house. I can't stand these new build houses here with the front door right on the street - what happened to front gardens or is space that much of a premium?!!

Sorry to hear about your hubby. Have you thought about trying for a job back in the States?

You are a gem of information my dear man. :D Thankyou, I will send hubby on a scout, using the excuse that it will be a test of his househusband skills... ;)

Bromleygirl... No return to the states for us.. Kids are doing very well here, and I love my job... Hubby will do well, I just know it... :)
