Moving Back to the UK from Florida
 

After trying to make things work out here in Florida, my American husband and I have decided its time to move back to the UK, for various reasons after five years. There is a number of reasons behind our choice and its a decision that we thought about long and hard.

My question is will my husband be able to be sponsored by my father instead of me, I plan to go back to university upon my return to do my PGCE, and so will only be looking for part time job initially.

My understanding is that there is no provision for anyone other than the spouse to provide the sponsorship for a visa.

Unless your father were able to gift you (gift, not lend) the amount needed to use savings instead of income.

If you have a look over on the spouse visa section, you should be able to get loads more details about the requirements for a spouse visa - including details of the 'surinder singh' option....

I see me living in a right to work state currently is going to cause real problems, I am gonna have to def look into the options now.

Good luck to you... hope you manage to take your hubby back. I am in MS and want to go home so badly but financial requirements make it too difficult.

yep the new rules are worse than the US system which is really hard to get through and that's saying something, at least the US allows you are allowed to have a co-sponsor. I am preparing to fight against the legislation as well.

The Surinder Singh Route is a way you could go back through Ireland without the huge financial requirements to go back with your spouse to the U.K We are thinking of that route.

Will definitely look into that route, we are also definitely going to watch what happens with this issue in the UK courts and with the immigration reform that is on the books for mid 2014. Luckily, we have time on our side as we are willing to take a longer timetable if needed. I'm also going to see what I would need to do to covert my US teaching certificate to one that is recognized for QTS, as that's something I may be able to do from here in the US. I currently am out of the school system as I am changing my specialism from high school to elementary, and working on steam trains for a living!

How do you mean? How does this affect you guys being able to move to the UK?

Looking on the bright side, this is definitely a point in your favor. As suggested by Rebs you could get a family gift and let it sit in your account for long enough that it is genuinely seen as yours. Alternatively, pursue your professional options in the UK to put you in a stronger position. If you can live apart for an extended period, something should work out! Where there's a will there's a way!

right to work state - employers get away with a lot and this includes very low wages, which make it hard for me to achieve financial requirements. It is very hard to find a high paying job and those that exist are very hard to get as everyone wants them.

Yes, I see what you mean. Wouldn't folks down south claim that the other side of the coin is, those states are cheap to live in, with no state income tax in FL, for instance.. Also you don't pay for someone to plow your driveway down there.

My daughter and her partner also are thinking of moving back to UK she is dual citizen, he a US citizen. He is getting his teaching degree. Do you think he would be able to be hired as a teacher in the UK with an American degree??? Living in the South isn't that cheap. Food is actually more expensive here than when we lived in MO. Rent is about the same. Also electric.. Living on $8.00 per hour is not easy especially without health insurance and when I went to sign up for Obama care, well MS does not give any subsidies and they want over $300 per month with a $6,ooo deductible

Looked into the whole pgce thing. After research I have found out my us teaching qualification is accepted for QTS teaching status in the uk, which will make things easier for me so going to take the additional courses needed to switch to elementary from High school and teach in the US for a few years, then try and change to a UK school eventually. I t may take a while but we have found a way home. Also will keep an eye on what's going with the financial issue. on as its still also in the hands of the high court. While the US does have a finincal standard to they at least allow co-sponsors on the finance side.
