You'd think that anyone married to a Brit would know quite a bit about the UK and therefore spouses would not need a test, but I have found this not to be true. There was someone on here once (an American), married to a Brit, who did not know what an MP is. Granted he was moving to the US not her to the UK, but it is still stuff you'd think someone would want to know about one's spouse's country. I am always asking my DH stuff about US history and politics, customs etc
I'd rather take a test about the country I'm emigrating to than have my privates looked at in a medical! My Mrs knows as much about the UK as I do - im sure to always be talking politics with her (hey im Scottish heh!) and keeping her informed with the things that are on my mind from home, ie. economy, war etc. But...I doubt I could pass the test! :) This is why I question the validity of it. |

Most of you reading this have probably not taken the Life in the UK test. I have, and I can tell you that I bet you couldn't pass the test - not unless you studied the material. They are not 'easy' questions like 'What does MP mean?'.

I've been gone from UK a looong time and I passed it online. If you live there a few years then take it it seemed like general knowledge to me, except for the ones about percentage of people who type questions. Those were odd. The US one I passed (only just) after studying, it seemed more of a US history test that anything else. |

I took a trial of the UK test online and passed. There were a few very odd questions though.
The US citizenship test also covers a lot of stuff that Americans don't know. I'd bet upwards of 80% of US citizens would fail their own citizenship test - and, knowing what small percentage of the citizenry even knows the name of the Vice President, I think I'm being generous with that number  I do think it's important to know something about the country you're going to move to, but they all require so little - just read a booklet, memorize the facts and then take the test. Maybe they should mandate a course in history and civics. |

The online tests are not at all like the actual test but you all obviously know more about it than I do.
