I think there is a confusion between 'not saying what's on your mind' (i.e. being quiet) and 'hiding your thoughts', here
Predictably, I got sucked into this. It's the pedant gene, it won't let me ignore things

You defeated your own argument, there. If someone is being sarcastic, then by definition they are not saying what they are thinking.

Cor blimey, this threads been a bit quiet while I was gone!
Back in sunny England - biggest shockers so far-
The price of car insurance and not being allowed to keep my no claims. We were paying $360 a year in the us fully comp on a 2012 car with a 2.8 engine, here I'm having to pay about $2000 on a 1.6 vauxhall zaffira from 2000.
How cold the ocean is on a sunny day ...was quite used to Outer banks and Galveston beaches - not abersoch weather. kept wanting to wrap people in blankets! To cold to be on the beach in swimming costumes!
How little time it takes to do things because everything is only a few minutes away.
How I didn't have to show any passports, birth certificates, etc to register my kids at school and with the NHS ... They just took my word for it all.
Play groups .... How have I lived without mum and toddler groups for 8 years? Lovely.
Nothing has changed .... Nothing. Everything is the same and I bump into all the same people.
Getting a bank account... Holy mackerel. I was shocked how much suspicion I was treated with... I was interrogated to make sure I wasn't an international money launderer.
People laughing at my sense of humor and not giving me funny looks
I'm sure I will think of more...
Oh... Yes, chocolate eclairs and bake well tarts are as yummy as I remember, fish and chips are even better than remembered.
So far, very happy, feels like I have never been away and loving having family all around
