Default Moving back to England after 12 years away

Hi,

I have been living and working in Germany for the last 12 years, before moving to Germany I was always in employment from the age of 16 (49 now).

It looks like I may be made redundent due to the current climate, I have been offered a package to leave. I only have a few days to respond.

Would I be able to claim unemployment etc if I moved back to England, what do I need to look out for etc?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave, I arrived back in the UK after 7 years in OZ/NZ, virtually skint. I had to jump through hoops, sign forms saying that I was back in the UK for good etc etc, but eventually I was able to get some money coming in about a month after i'd signed on due to the backlog in people signing. If you get really stuck you will be eligible for emergency crisis loans, which are paid on the day. What constitutes a crisis? No money for food, or rent. You have to pay these back weekly. Documentation you require: National Insurance No, birth certificate or something to say you were born here etc. I used my passport.

Thats just it though you did get money and so do many others. You had not been there for 7 years and there has to be some sort of cut off point at which U.K citizens returning have to start again.
Sorry if this offends it is how I see it.

If you leave your job, you should have the right to remain in Germany, if you're a British citizen (would this be an option?).

Bear in mind that finding a new job anywhere won't be easy. On the other hand, packages available now might not be available later.
