Default Medical Treatment Back in the UK

Looks like a sudden change in medical circumstances will mean that the PR dream has gone out of the window and that we will have to go back to the UK. Will we be able to get treatment on the NHS immediately or is there some kind of waiting period? Since we were only ever in Canada on a work permit, can we claim that we only left the UK temporarily?

Any help much appreciated, today has been a really shit day.

As soon as you establish residence in the UK, i.e. taken steps to live their permanently, you will be covered.

Take your medical cards and some proof of address to your surgery of choice and register, or ask your old surgery to take you back.

Don't sweat it - you'll be fine.

If you are intending to remain in the UK now, even if the reason is a downturn in your health situation you will be entitled to NHS care from the moment you arrive. You will need a proper address to register your NHS number at a surgery. If you dont still have them, they are easy to get sent.

If care is of an emergency nature then you will get it immediately, if not the short wait required for your paperwork to get registered and in proper order wont matter. Hope your move back is as stress free as possible.
