Husband loves marmite (the UK version NOT the ozzie version which apparently tastes nothing like) and hates vegemite. Kids have also converted to marmite.
He used to get ozzie friends to do blind taste test to show them the difference until he realised he was wasting his precious jar of the stuff. He was telling me just yesterday that he doesn't know if he has enough to last until I go to the UK in September so has hidden the jar from the kids.
Sad I know......he needs to get out more

I just couldn't resist gatecrashing this thread and stating that after having eaten both marmite and vegemite, growing up...VEGEMITE RULES

I am also a lover of the fab marmite stuff, whole family is actually, and I'm not ashamed to say that I brought three huge jars over with me. Six weeks in, and one jar is empty - it's not going to last as long as I thought ! Time to start rationing?

I have seen it here in Canada of course, but only the little/medium jars - for about £2.50 too.

Same here. I'm an ardent marmite fan but can't be doing with Vegemite.

It's funny isn't it how this really is one of those 'love it or hate it things'? I wonder what those who can't stand either think of us lot ?

PS: Have you found/tried 'Promite'? Personally not my cuppa tea but some aussies love the stuff more than the famed Vegemite.

Oh vegemite and marmite have a few uses: great added to some soups, stews, casseroles, or as a base for homemade gravy. I still like the odd vegemite and potato chip/crisp sarnie.

Chicken salt is nice but it can clash too, eg; doesn't really work with fish n chips (salt, lemon, brown vinegar much better).

Used to sometimes whack a bit of garlic salt on sausages, chops or steak.
