If it was US...did you have to pay State income tax...as at that point you wouldn't have been a resident of any state? I'm in CA, which has super high income tax rates, so that could be a significant factor for me.

It was US Federal tax only. My “home” State was Texas so no State income tax at all.

Ok thanks - that's good info. I'm expected to get screwed on a few things, like the 529, so it'd be nice if there were some wins out there. That might be one.
