Hi there,
We have an opportunity to move to Perth but never been to Australia and having heard mixing reviews about Perth but wish for you guys to share your experience with us, those who are still in Perth and those who are moving back from Perth or moved back from Perth.
What I want to know is why it works for you and why it doesn't.
I know different people have different experience and we are going to base our decisions to the comments but it would be nice to know who others' thoughts are.
many thanks
Peddie

I think you need to read some of the threads on here, hopefully you'll get an idea as to why.
For me personally, its lack of family and friends really, and I just miss my homeland and now realise the opportunites in the UK were there, I just chose to ignore them, and stupidly thought Australia would fulfill my dreams (big mistake)....

If you like quaint pubs, going out and getting rat arsed in them, going to clubs - don't come
If you like trailing round places like the Trafford Centre, Bluewater etc and have a wardrobe full of Next, George or Primark stuff - don't come
If you have a National Trust membership card and spend your weekends touring Warwick Castle of Hampton Court - don't come
If you spend your winter evenings tucked up on the sofa watching wonderful british tv with your central heating on full watching your christmas tree twinkling and listening to Carol singers - don't come

If you are close to your family and see someone from your family a few times a week - don't come.

I live for Curry so that's a no for me then hehe.
Gosh reading the posts it doesnt leave much of the reason of going now.
Personally i dont fancy Australia but my husband got a job opportunity there and Calgary and we cant decide between the two.

I don't live in either place but been an ex pat for 22 yrs,my only advice is that if you enjoy your life and (ESPECIALLY family) right now then stay put but if your not happy then give it a go

If I were in your shoes this minute having lived in both places I would choose Calgary.

It's very, very parochial. They think it's a modern day garden of eden that ends at the NT/SA borders. They think a park near the city (with admittedly good views) overlooking a large river, and an overpriced, overcommercialised small island are state treasures we should all lavish accolades on.
The news and radio here is a joke. The carry on and on and on and on about half arsed, half witted, grossly overpaid AFL players. If world war 3 started tomorrow, the lead news story would be how Ben Cousins broke his thumbnail while trying to open a designer non-alcoholic beverage.
It's a boring, superficial, soulless place, full of the self-absorbed and pretentious. I could go on, but can't be arsed. I've been here way too long!
You might like to know the property market is way overpriced and there is a massive rental property crisis. If you want to move to OZ, Adelaide or somewhere further east would be my pick.
As one poster said, If you have a good life where you are, don't come here thinking it will be better and everything fall into place. It might, but it might not too. It's a gamble. If there are things about your life in the UK you don't like, can you change them? Move elsewhere inside the UK maybe?
Coming here can be an expensive move financially and otherwise. In some cases it can even tear marriages apart if things don't turn out as hoped.
