Re: Just got mortgage but now moving abroad. please help..
Hopefully you've spoken to your bank, but if it helps to know of other people's experience, I moved abroad and firstdirect gave me permission to let out my house for 3 years, after which they said I would need to move mortgages to another provider - I'd need a mortgage with buy-to-let/landlord permissions and they had stopped doing those.
3 years seemed a reasonable compromise, but I got the impression there wasn't a hard and fast rule. I got three years because they asked me how long my visa to the US was for (L-1B, 3 years). I also had a relatively long history with them as both a current account and mortgage holder.
As it happened, I moved back to the UK 3 years, 1 month after they gave me permission, and to Pulaski's point, in that 3 years they never once mentioned it again. I paid every month and they had no reason to open my file.

If you knew before you signed the mortgage paperwork but didn't tell them before you signed the mortgage paperwork then you might have a problem.

I signed the mortgage paper work before I had accepted the job offer. The completion of purchase needed to happen after few weeks due to some technical reason. Technically speaking even to date, I am waiting for my visa/work permit so can I not act innocent and say nothing is final until I get the visa/work permit therefore I waited until now to inform them?
