You hope
There are already several thousand nurses graduating each year with no jobs and the political pressure is on to recruit 'home grown' first.
All the states are under pressure......a lot of jobs, in future, will be out in the bush where no one wants to go. It already happens that way with teachers

So far as unemployment is concerned it depends what elements of employment are in the mix as to what unemployment rates are:
from: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com
"The other potential area of misleading statistics is related to definition. This can be illustrated by considering something as simple as unemployment.
Whether somebody is out of work or not is open to wide interpretation. In the UK unemployment statistics can be manipulated by a variety of methods including: Use of training schemes; part time flexible working spreading job hours over more people, but top of the list is the huge amount of people shifted to sickness or incapacity benefit status*. If the latter group were included the unemployment stats would virtually double, and as recent government trials have shown around 80 per cent of these claimants are capable of doing work of some description. Of course there are political consequences in trying to reverse this, as of course the headline unemployment figure would rise - even though the amount of people actually out of work is left unchanged."
*Of course of late many who did hold this status are now being tested and shifted out and given Jobseeker's Allowance
Hence the skepticism!

Good post Pete, the figures are fudged in both countries, but like I say the Australian fudged figures are 3% lower than the UKs fudged figures.

My concern is more in line with future interest rates, not just inflation and the job numbers, shitty politicians and where it is better to be in the world, we are all lumped together anyway, however, there are a few of us here who are retiring in a couple of years time, possibly with homes we have sold in countries outside the UK and we need to invest that capital for an income. With interest rates as they are where do we get the growth and income from?
