I'd been waiting 6 months for all of that! The ones I had in Perth were terrible but this was the real deal! lol

The only problem was I was feeling quite dizzy with the jet lag, like I'd been on the waltzer for 3 hours etc! Woke up at 2.30am then 5.30am this morning and didn't get back to sleep. Hopefully I will be over it by Sunday before we fly off to Cyprus!

Going to a friends house tonight to catch up and have some beers in his local village pub, looking forward to it!

Apparently I'll be there for 3 hours!! as I have to do a psychometric test, a case study and then the interview! Not sure what the first 2 parts will entail but I'll soon find out!

Things are moving in the right direction anyway.
Wish you loads of luck Stu I'm sure you'll be fine

Glad to hear you're settling back in nicely mate. Very jealous re: curry, though I was always more of a balti fan myself. Little place down the road from our old house in Nailsworth did a terrific Chicken Korma... Enjoy Cyprus.

Thanks folks.

I just want to say how happy I am that this forum is full of such nice people on the whole, I enjoy talking to people on here as there are many helpful individuals, even the ones who love it in Oz and could never see themselves leaving can also understand why people go home and that it doesn't have to be after a set amount of time such as 2 yrs etc.

I'm probably rambling on about nothing but its just nice to be able to speak to like minded, helpful people. If only all forums were this pleasant.

Hiya Jude,

Nice to hear that you're still happy to be home.

Yeah I'm also quite enjoying the cooler rainy weather! Although that will change once we get to Cyprus on Sunday!

I'm still struggling with the jet lag a bit, very tired etc and waking up at odd times so I'm hoping its gone by Sunday!

Good luck with finding a property Jude, we've not got that far yet but we're lucky in that we can stay with our parents until we've got sorted. I hope something crops up soon for you anyway.

My UK passport expired about 20 years ago, Which probably explains why I would have so much trouble in getting back into any sort of quality of Life in the UK.

I cannot belive the ease of which people slot back into life there, Straight into a house, back on the net, watching any tv channel they like. I'd be living out of suitcase, in a small room somewhere, with relatives that I only talk to on the phone and see every 10 years or so, with them probably wondering when is he/they going to get their own place. No job experience in the UK, a bit like a new Migrant to Aussie really. If I wanted to go back, it would all be too hard.

I like the idea of a couple of years in the UK, just to see things I missed when I lived there. The Living conditions for me would be against us. There is no way I could replicate the ease of life I have here, I'm certain at age 50 plus, My wife and I couldn't get anywhere near the money that we earn here either. I'm thanking my lucky stars that I dont have the pangs of missing the UK that most people on here do.

Do people think, that the same reasons I cannot go back, are some of the same reasons that they had trouble adjusting to Aussie. Also it can be a pointer of what can happen if people do have real misgivings about Australia, that it can be left to long.

I think that we get used to a certain way of life and have certain needs which can't always be fulfilled in our new country. While some people can adapt, others can't or don't want to. Your are right when you say that it can be left too long because people do often adjust to a particular way of life over time and then moving back becomes far too scary.

Hope lovely Melbourne is ok - I wouldn't mind a stroll along Southbank right now (as long as I could come home straight afterwards though)

Wouldnt it be nice to be able to nip to Oz for a nice coffee etc, stroll to your fave spot then back home for a cup of tea followed by a woodland walk

Ooh must try that, we do prefer a Chinese and have gone to Happy Garden in Platt Bridge for 17 years, even from Winstanley for our take away, although it's much easier now from Ashton. The Chinese in NZ was awful just full of Broccoli and cauliflower!!

Ozzieeagle...you are quite right when people leave it to long before coming home they become accustomed unknowingly to their new life and when they try to go back to thier old find it equally difficult and end up in a sort of limbo. It's part of the culture shock syndrome

Hope this link helps but saying that it didn't help me I lasted 5 months but didn't want the 'in limbo' feeling.

Hope you get settled Stu loads going on in Wigan this summer and free parking and the new grand Arcade shopping centre with a pretty good tribute to the Casino!!
