And in stark contrast, we went to the Essex County Show a couple of weeks ago.

These were just some of the attractions

Helicopter rides

Lessons in driving a steam engine

Fairground rides

Live music concerts

Hog roast BBQ

Rare breed animals (lots of them) UK is leaps and bounds ahead in this department, saving some gorgeous animals.

Lots more on offer but these stuck out for me. Shame i am too ill for the helicopter ride. Would have loved to have a go!

Don't most countries/states/counties/cities/towns/villages have them? Seen one, seen them all regardless of language spoken :D Quite easy to avoid if you want to. Don't know where the first one ever was but I'd take a guess at the UK. That's where you're headed back to, isn't it? :D I do like having a day off because of them though, no intention of using that day to visit the thing, but I'll take the day off ;)

i dont see the blandford steam rally or its ilk on the news banging on about the best bargains for showbags and how to rot yer kids teeth at a faster rate than suckin on a bottle of acid though .
May be its the repeatative nature of the news , it only feels like last week that they report dick wellington [86] from mukinbuddin is log chopping champion of the world of west australia though . :):):) i thought it was the queens birthday today here in the west not a day off for the show

Granted they don't bang on about it and they thankfully haven't 'discovered' showbags but you can guarantee the kids teeth get rotted just as quick :D I enjoyed the Blandford steam rally the twice I went, rellies live very close. Twice was more than enough, just as the GC Show and EKKA outdid their welcome after those visits.:D

Don't get a day off for the Queen's Birthday in the UK ;) Travel around Aus and you can have about three  none of which are actually her birthday. Funny old world

I loved the blandford steam rally ,all those chuffing engines and traditional steam driven rides and the clackety clack of all the small farm engines going and ofcourse the the beer tent serving the local tanglefoot and traditional ciders . Throw that in with the smell of steam and the milky english summer day sky , it seemed like bliss to me .
