Took 2 years to get visa, about 2 months to dismantle our lives, 3 days in Oz and I knew it was a big fat "no", then 3 months hanging about in case it got better?! It didn't. Been back 10 weeks. Obviously in that short time we havent been mucked about by house prices escalating etc, but we have had to start from scratch again. Been "homeless" for 6 months so far and that affects us all. But it is okay. I really did not want to leave it a year or 2 as our old life would really have disappeared by then. I would say keep your 14 year old happy! Esp with big exams coming in next year or so.You have been over a year?

Not sure really...I know English move over from Cheshire as more affordable, so probably quite a popular area to migrate to anyway.Nephew who lives there is a chef, but got fed up with hours so works in boat yard for peanuts now. Can only afford to rent but he is useless with money! Plenty of seasonal touristy work in the summer.

I love Cardiff - it's on my list of places I'd like to check out in more detail for when we move in another few years.

I'll second that. I lived in Cardiff for about 6 years and thought it was one of the best Cities in the country. There are or were some very rough areas and crime while I was there was bad, it was undergoing a major redevelompemt so maybe that's all improved now. Just steer clear of Barry.
