How long does Customs Clearance take?
 

We have moved back to the UK after ten years in the US. We shipped our belongings, and after about 6 weeks of delays (wont get into it here, but everything went slow), our things have finally arrived in the UK and have been transferred to the UK agents warehouse. They have told us that they cant arrange delivery until it clears customs, and despite repeated questions about this they are ignoring my questions about how long this will take.

So my question is, how long does this part of the process take? It was a consolidation shipment (which i now regret because of the delays). We have been pretty patient, but its pretty difficult being in a house with no furniture for weeks and with a young child.

Normally 1-2 days, unfortunately 2020 is not a normal year, so it is impossible to say. :(

Your stuff could clear tomorrow, or it could take another month. Sorry I can't be of more help.

That was our experience in 2017, but as you say, 2020 is far from normal.

Our son had a consolidated shipment and his also cleared Customs in a couple of days, also in 2017 about 10 months after us.

Thanks. That is reassuring. It's been a couple of days already, so hopefully it wont take too much longer. But then there is COVID...

It cleared customs today. So for anyone else, that was about 5 days, although a weekend in the middle..
