Default How long before you realised Oz was not for you

Hi everyone
As someone who wants to go to Oz but the door is shut firmly in my face could i ask how long you where there before you realised you had made a mistake and wanted to come home.
I have read a lot of stories on here and i am so sad for you all who had hoped (like me) to start a new life - if you had the chance would you do it again and would you choose Oz or somewhere else.
Good luck to you all and i hope you are very happy wherever you have landed.
Thanks
Sam

If I knew then what I know now, would I do it again? Half of me says yes because of the experience and the benefits we have gained by doing this, the other half says "Not on your Nelly mate!" it's not worth the heartache!!

I knew within a few weeks of landing here in Perth that I could not make this my home. Perth is just wrong for us. I'm not saying that everywhere in Oz is wrong for us because I haven't seen everywhere.

i knew within about 5months it wasnt for life, im pretty sure before then, but neither me or hubby voiced our concerns to each other till then!!

would i do it again? again like tracey, hard one to answer, but yes for the experieces, thats what lifes for isnt it? but we have lost sooo much money, its shocking!

i would have liked to have given the sunshine coast a go, but in my heart of hearts i still wouldnt have found it stimulating enough i suspect.

in a nutshell, no regrets, just bloody damn glad i have the choice to go home

We did a stint in Adelaide....soon as we landed at the Airport I wanted to take off again back home....lasted 9 months.

This time on the Gold Coast, I was fine until the 6 month mark then the yearning to go home intensified daily.

We fly home on Monday

Forgot to say....glad we did it all....wish it did not cost so much money....no regrets at all!!

No, I wouldnt do it again with hindsight.
It took me 18 months to have serious doubts, I went home & came back to try another area.
All the doubts from b4 resurfaced again, all the same reasons I dont see myself staying here long term.
Sam, I know it must be really frustrating to have had the option taken away, spose you just have to be philosophical about it.
Be happy wherever

For me it's total regret I'm afraid - although I did like Australia to a certain extent the experience has ruined us financially and split my family (brother fell out with us for coming back - he lives in different State in Oz).

I had serious doubts about it when we visited but it was too late to back out. Once we moved there, we went through a period of loving it until around four months in when we all realised it just wasn't for us.

On the plus side, it's made me grateful for all that the UK has to offer - I took so many things for granted before we left

Cool Re: How long before you realised Oz was not for you

On reflection I think I wish I'd spent the money travelling the world working and renting in various places for 12 months to 2 years rather than spending a whole 2 years in Aus. You're not missing anything, honestly. I agree with Lousie - makes you appreciate what you have in the UK more.
Probably after about 3 months I knew I was't going to stay there.

Hi
Thanks for all your replies - to be honest now the option has been taken away from us im not as bothered as i thought i would be - its probably a blessing as my 2 sons wouldnt have been coming with us and from what the immigration specialists have told us my dad (who is 83) would have had problems getting over so it would have been me and the hubby with our 3 dogs.
We actually looked into going to Spain many years ago when our lads were very small and are seriously looking into it again now and hoping to move out next year sometime - i think this will be a better option as they can come out to us or we can get back to them easier.
Thank you for all your stories its been a great insight and i wish you all well in the future and those waiting to come home i hope you dont have to wait long.
Sam
