How far in advance can we apply for the spouse visa?

We cancelled our initial visa before the biometrics and are reapplying for the end of the summer. My question is, how far in advance can we apply for our visa? We have an ideal departure date of August 31st 2021 and wondered what the earliest date we can apply would be. I think I read 6 months, but wanted to double check.
Thanks!

.With Covid, I understood that one could apply up to 6 months prior to your proposed departure date.
