Default Housing...Rent? Mortgage?

Hello and Happy New Year!
Apologies if this question has been asked recently, searched the forum and couldn’t see anything recently related. Lots of questions now that we have decided to move back to UK.
I’ve heard that it will be difficult, if not, impossible to get a mortgage in UK right away, and that even renting could be a problem? What are others experiences with this situation? We do not have jobs lined up at the moment, but have financials that would allow us to rent for awhile. But obviously we are hoping the jobs do get lined up fairly quickly.
thank you!

AirBNB can be a possible option to have temporary housing until you find an alternative.

Lots of "it depends" there - how long have you been away, where are you coming back to in the UK, etc?

For renting, generally being able to demonstrate that you have the money in the bank to pay rent over the course of the tenancy and/or someone willing to stand guarantor and/or good references, even from abroad and/or being prepared to pay a larger deposit will all help. Google the rental agencies in your area and avoid the worst ones.

For mortgages, once you have jobs and are more settled - brokers are making a comeback and using a reputable one may be easier than approaching lenders directly as they will be able to advise on which lenders accept borrowers in your situation and which are the best deals.

We used Rightmove.com to find rental places. After proving we had the ability to pay we had to pay 6 months up front for our rental house.

6 months rent in advance if the credit history is missing.

Thank you for your responses! We spoke with an estate agent today who mentioned the 6 month route
