probably not much help, but the beeb did do a show about this a few years back, you might get lucky and find something about it off their website.

Maybe try some universities - academic visitors often require housing for 9-12 months for sabbaticals.

I was going to start a post on much the same thing, only I wanted to ask whether any members had actually swapped their homes for a holiday anywhere in the world. If so, what were your experiences and would you do it again?

Theres lots of them .... as the previous poster said there was a series on TV on the beeb some years ago, and as I remember it was a very successful idea ... although I guess they are not going to show any that went wrong!

We've only swapped with friends, but a friend of mine has been doing this every year for the past 10 years at least. All over Europe and the US - never had a problem.

I think doing your homework, setting out clear expectations (in writing) and trusting your gut feeling are important aspects.

Thanks for all the replys. I was thinking more like a long term swap, a year or more. To see if I really do want to move back home. These web sites all seem to be for vacations.
Thanks
Rob

I would imagine the different laws in different countries about tenancy would make this too much of a risk .... I wouldn't consider it myself

I tried to swap my house in the U.K. for a house in Brisbane - didn't get very far as everyone wanted to work in London. I did get offered two rentals tho' have taken the second and am very happy with it, but a consecutive long term swap is v hard to find unless you live in very easy commuting distance of London, or p'haps a major university.

At this stage anywhere except london, york would be nice... I'll even stay in Birmingham, really doesn't matter as long as hubby can get a job around there

Well, theirs plenty of work round Northamptonshire, do a search, we are pretty central, 70 mile from London, 30 odd miles from Birmingham.

We have a couple from south africa who brought a house in our close a couple of years ago. They have been renting it to another south african couple but they move out in March because they have brought their own home.

When are you due to come over and what sort of house are you looking for?
