For anyone still interested the crown colony of Gibraltar:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_colony

-----------------------------------------------------
An overseas territory of the United Kingdom (formerly known as a dependent territory or earlier as a crown colony) is a territory that is under the sovereignty and formal control of the United Kingdom but is not a physical part of the United Kingdom proper (Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

Overseas territories or crown colonies should also be distinguished from Crown dependencies (the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, which have a different constitutional relationship with the United Kingdom), and protectorates (which were not formally under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom). They should also not be confused with Commonwealth realms, which are independent states sharing the same sovereign as the United Kingdom.

At one time, crown colonies were just like any other colony and were directly administered by officials appointed by the British government. Today, however most overseas territories are self-governing colonies, only relying on Britain for defence, foreign affairs, and some trade issues.

Crown colonies have never been considered integral parts of the United Kingdom, and have never had representation in the British Parliament, on the grounds that they are separate jurisdictions. This is in contrast to other European countries, such as France, Denmark, and the Netherlands, whose dependencies have varying degrees of integration with their so-called 'mother countries'. Only in Malta was integration ever seriously considered by the British Government, in 1955, but this was later abandoned, while in Gibraltar it was rejected in 1976.

Very true the UK has a very temperate climate, all considered; let's face it, it rarely snows in the south, and to speak of, once every 10 years or so in London. Temperatures only reallly go below zero at night, and day time winter temps are mostly over 5-7 - and can get to 10 easily. Contrast this with "cold" Melbourne where mins are often 13-15 in the day, 7ish at first light.

Continental Europe has much higher extremes. You never see people putting snow tyres on in the UK do you, yet only 1 hours flight in Luxembourg people are.

That said, this lack of extremes is bad news for many; less hours of sunshine and more ''ordinary'' overcast weather. Germany gets twice the amount of sunshine, and many people would love to have sun and light even at the expense of snow and cold which people in Finland or Scandinavia get.

Is there any way we could get him beamed back up? I mean, the Enterprise isn't part of the U.K is it? Do we have jurisdiction at all. Does the National Express bus go there?

i'd say the central line section between tottenham court road and oxford circus during rush hour. you'll have to get there early as most of the space is usually taken up during rush hour.
