I got charged over $600 for an ambulance to take my son to hospital when he had a nasty bump on the head. I could have taken him myself, but they insisted they had to. Then i got the bill...FFS. The hospital was only down the road.

Yup, we got roped into taking out a huge private health insurance thing when we were there. It was a huge chunk of money out of our wages - and all for what?? I thought it was a major waste of money. I still had to pay onto of that for every appointment/check up I had PLUS X-rays/scans etc.
The health system over there rips everyone off. It realy doesn't pay to be ill over there.
How you doing these days Nu-Shooz?? You guys found a place to buy yet?? x

In the 3 years in Perth i was dreading getting ill or going to the dentist. I'm just glad i never had to see a dentist and hung on til i got back home.

I'm doing great Pearly. Been back just over a year now and love every minute of it. NOPE still not found a house the search continues...problem at first was we couldn't get a morgage due to our credit score being 0..but that's all changed now..we have the morgage, just need to find the right house. But apart from that things couldn't be better. I saw your snowy pics, they were fab

$2000 for a bridge for our youngest it was for his mouth..lol although what they finally charged I could of built another ruddy suspension bridge over the Humber...lol...with $50 for a 10 min appointment every month on top.....AND it did not work....I have just had to rob a bank for two fillings...both of which I had done last year but fell out.... a Doctor I use to work with here in South Perth said to me when we had just arrived...."don't bother with private healthcare its a waste of time" we never did.....and thank the gods we have had no major health worries.....oh our son had an opp on his ankle as the waiting list for public health was over a year...we looked at going private on a plan but would of paid a fourtune and the gap was a joke so we just paid in cash.....was still a fourtune but way by far cheaper than private health care plans and also paying for childrens public edcuation and child medication is a joke...especially for a "rich" country....

I have to say since we returned to Canada, I was worried about the healthcare system as my husband has had numerous problems, triple by pass, 2 aorta aneurysms repaired, eye surgery, back surgery the list goes on, but when we registered with a doctor, he has seen a heart specialist, had a complete body scan, tread mill tests, x-rays , tested for prostrate cancer, in other words, a complete mot, and all for free, I have been really pleasantly surprised by the fantastic treatment he has received, even for me they have taken blood tests, & the prostrate cancer test. The drs. surgery, has a social worker and phyciatrist within the surgery, and the sister wanted to make an appointment with the social worker for us to sign up to some program that helps with precriptions (as they are very expensive, my husbands comes to over $400 per month) and that is one of the reasons we are returning home, the medication bills, and dental expenses are just too high and we are retired, but I have to say the medical side of things is ace

I went to an NHS dentist last week, for a checkup and a scaling and 2 x-rays it cost me £14.

In Australia that would have been $350 +.

Anyway glad that you are going well kevin747.

I just posted a 9 month update, but accidentally put it on the rovers - if one of the mods could move it to the main MBTTUK forum? Happy to answer any specific questions by PM

Thanks for this. I'll show it to my Australian spouse. Most days.
