Eldest just reversed the car into a trailer hitch. So much for sensors and reversing cameras.....

not sure about that. Back bumper and another section below it with the lights. It's all going to need to be resprayed too.

I read that a claim on your insurance will bump your premium 10% for all future years, for ever - you're put on a permanently higher premium schedule, even if you change insurers. It sounds like your situation might be marginal.

I think that depends on the state.

Down my way, I think they can only charge a surcharge for making a claim up to 6 or 7 years after the accident.

Tickets, start to step down on the surcharge after 3 years, if no other tickets get pinged for moving violations.
