Default Heath Insurance needed for Holiday Visit

Hello
Been told some conflicting info, not sure where to look.

My Father in Law (UK Citizen) retired & living in Australia for Many years now, & still gets a UK pension.
We're planning a Holiday back to the UK later in the year & he's been told he has to get health insurance before returning to the UK.
Is this needed for a UK Passport holder/Australian resident?

Or can anyone tell me where to find the relevant info.

Thanks

Yes, that would be correct. He wont be in UK as a permanent resident so is not entitled to the full gamut of NHS support. Under the reciprocal agreement he is entitled to essential medical coverage (eg in an emergency) but otherwise will have to pay as if a private patient. Also, if he is not normally resident and something awful happens, then he would not be covered for repatriation to his home country (Australia)

If OTOH he is coming home to live then he just has to assert that he is resident, give an address and sign up with a GP
