Thanks for your concern. I've actually been off work ill for several days which is why I haven't been on the boards (been "sofa-bound" all day today, for example). I decided to stay out of the housing market until my life has settled down (too much stress!). I figure the houses will still be there when I eventually figure out what I want to do/where in the U.K. I want to be, and if they are 10% more expensive by then, so be it. I'll just have to buy a house that's 10% smaller. ;)
