Gumtree, Ebay???
Hi all, I'm trying to sell some household appliances & abit of furniture but not having much luck on Gumtree. Should I try Ebay? Where else is there to advertise?? The gear I'm selling is only 6months old, long story, so don't want to give it away & can't take it. I'm in Toowoomba, Qld but leave for Leeds in 3 weeks, woohoo!!!!!!!!! Oh my giddy ant

Postage is the real killer on Ebay Aus as Aus Post's charges, certainly at the small package end of the market, are just crazy. There's also a site called http://www.quicksales.com.au/ its free to list on there and nowhere near as widespread as ebay but stuff does sell sometimes, and as its free there's nothing to lose. You could also put it in the Classifieds section on here and link it to your signature, shows in all your posts then! Good luck :) |

I tried Gumtree for a while (Brisbane) but after 6 months and one email that led nowhere I gave up. ebay has been far more lucrative, especially if you offer local pick-up - I won't have people come to my home but I'll meet in the local shopping centre or whatever to save on postage.

Re: Gumtree, Ebay???
We've had moderate success with Gumtree, have managed to get rid of a number of things. The biggest problem we've found is the number of people who email once about an item, then you never hear from them again - this has happened a ridiculous number of times.
With only 3 weeks to go ebay is probably your best bet, otherwise you could try Gumtree again but with a lower price? We are a few weeks behind you (got 7.5 weeks to go) and are going through the same thing. We have SO much stuff, it's unreal. It doesn't look a lot at first but when you really look around the place it mounts up. And I thought we'd already got rid of a lot! |

Oh I just couldn't be doing with trying to sell stuff so I gave it away via Freecycle. Things like our old gas barbeque and our old petrol lawnmower which only had a couple of years' life left in them.
Other odd sets of china and glass, our old plastic picnic table, unwanted Christmas decorations. Plus plenty of other sorts of, 'stuff' that wasn't coming overseas with us. I realise it's different for everybody especially anyone who can't afford to ship it but can't afford to give it away either. Or even afford to buy replacement items in the future. Good luck all. |
Re: Gumtree, Ebay???
Ebay every single time over Gumtree or any of the others. Always had good results with Ebay.

We sold what we wanted to sell on Ebay even our car........I just took really good and clear pictures (I looked at others on the site first to see how it was done) spent time with a detailed description and we did not look back, the most it took to sell an item was the car and that was 3 weeks. I had never sold anything before so if I can do it you can. Good luck
