we are going back to the uk my hubby is going via car with our dog
our dog has only just had her pet passport done in november and there needs to be a six months wait for her to go back which can't happen (family emergancy calls) so can anyone tell me what will happen to her . i can get her treated for tic and tape worms no more than 48hrs before we go but she still has till may before the 6 months is up from the rabbies jabs she was given to come here. has anyone else been in this situation if so what could be done if anything at all.

We just moved 2 cats and 2 dogs to Italy and found the process of what they needed very confusing.
But in answer to your question I think that they may put your dog in quarantine until the 6 months is up. Try ringing Defra they should be able to tell you.

Yes, that is correct, though I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is. If your dog is going into quarantine, you need to find an approved quarantine kennel, and they (or an approved company) must pick up and take the dog to the quarantine kennel. You will not be allowed to transport your dog to quarantine.

Yes, your dog will still need to do hatever timescale takes her to the 6 months. If you look on the \DEFRA site, it details all the registered quarantine kennels and you can try and find one near you so that you can visit, as i am doing weekly until April!:(

If UK keeps your pet 6 months in carantine, after 6 months your dog will be not your dog anymore. I sugest to keep 6 years in carantine people who make laws like this.

From the voice of experience: This is incorrect advice. It may be true for some dogs, but certainly was not true for mine.

Besides, I don't think the OP has been back on here since first posting.

I am a bit confused here ............ forgive me.

We came out with our dogs (now dog) on the PETS scheme. Thirty days in quarantine here. That was September. One dog did not survive quarantine...

We are now going home, and we will be travelling on the same plane as my remaining dog, and taking her straight home from the airport.

She had every vaccination and blood test necessary (inc rabies) before we left, and the rabies is valid for 3 years (NORBIVAC) - it states this on her passport, and we have written conf. from both Defra and norbivac that this is valid. All her other routine vaccs are up to date.

24 hours before the flight she will have to be flead/ticked/wormed and vet checked. Then that is is - no quarantine at the other end.

I would never put my dog thru quarantine again and we have researched this to the point of annoying Defra (!!!) - but that is how we understand it.


I recommend you get onto DEFRA to check your own situation - and get them to put it in writing via email.

Thats because you had the pet passport before you left the Uk ( if i've just read your post right) opening poster didn't.......And because she is going back to the Uk, her pet has to do the 6mth Quarantine either before she leaves or when she arrives.

Ah, my mistake, sorry :blink:

Even with the Pets passport, getting our dog back to the UK is proving to be a nightmare............ she came out in an 8mm width crate on Qantas, but she has to go back in a 12mm crate on the return Qantas flight. :confused:

She can only travel on certain Qantas routes for DEFRA to accept her , so we opted for Cairns so we could drive up and minimize her trauma - but Qantas have subcontracted this leg to Jetstar who do not accept pets at all.

Even with the PETS scheme, she has to have wormer/vet check.flea treatment within I think 24 hours of the flight :confused: might be wrong on that, (I understand why, but what if the flight is delayed ?) ......

All very complicated - moving pets is a nightmare. Suppose I am biased, but I am sooooo scared that something else could go wrong. :ohmy:

Mmm Scary business, but we will do it cos we love are animals :lol: Mad as we are.
I have to get my 3 cats from Vancouver to Manchester and their quarantine here doesn't end till end of June. Had lots of probs here with Vets not having a clue about the " PETS" scheme. We didn't get pet passports before we came, so had to sort the Third Country Vets Certificate out :blink:

We got bloods in, in december.......their is only Zoom that flys to manchester from Vancouver, that will fly pets back to the Uk and they will only do it under Ladyhayes pet travel. The paper work is mind boggling the costs are ridiculous :ohmy: by the time i get them home it will of cost us roughly £2500-£3000 :huh:. But it would never enter my head not to do it ;)
