going back for 2nd time
 

Yes, we are heading back just over 1 year since we came back to oz for the 2nd time. Is there anyone else out there who has done this, would like to hear your stories.

I haven't done it....but do know some people who ping-ponged between the UK and NZ about 3 or 4 times. They've been in NZ this time for about 7yrs now.

I did it, but not to Oz.

Studied and worked in the US 1900-1999, went back home 2000, came back to the US 2001, and am (hopefully, contract pending!) going home a second (and final) time this summer.

Country hopping is a very expensive hobby, unless you have an employer picking up the tab.

With the greatest of respect, you should be doing some serious contemplation before taking a step like this. How can you be confident you won't want to return to Australia once in the UK?

Neither the UK nor Australia are perfect, and if that's what you're looking for you're going to be disappointed no matter where you are. 1 year in Australia is not enough, you should give it more time to work.

Too flipping right. And if your timing is off with regard to all kinds of intangibles such as property market where you are leaving/going to, exchange rate where you are leaving/going to, etc. it can be a lot more expensive!

Two small" examples: I returned to the UK in 2000 and put about 10,000 quid of house sale profit into the stock market, most of which I lost rather quickly (stupid, stupid, stupid). I left the UK a year later having decided not to "bother" buying somewhere while I was there. Now, going back 5 years later, prices in the UK have as much as doubled whereas my house here in the US has increased by (maybe) 10% - most of which will disappear in a puff of smoke when the realtor's get their 6%!

Others on the other hand have been lucky enough to be in the opposite situation. A lot is in timing and luck. Bit of a gamble any time you decide to move.

When you returned previously you said this:

"we just felt like fish out of water, things were not as we left them, we were not living that life any more, we had moved on, and it was not until we got back that we realised that we could not go back and just pick up as if we had not been away"

Are you prepared for that this time round? Not suggesting this isn't the right move for you, but it's worth remembering why you changed your mind last time round. :)

At the moment moving back to the UK from OZ and NZ is going to take some guts with with the currencies taking such severe nose dives :eek:

Plus interesting for those moving out, trading into AU NZ dollars then if they want to go back and the currency continutes its downward slide they could be going back with WAY less than they came out with.

:scared: what happened? With everything else there's been to sort out I haven't kept an eye on the exchange rate. Amazing what a difference 2c can make in the greater scheme of things. :scared:

Anyone know what's caused it, and what the prediction is for the next month or so?
