Getting a mortgage after being away
Hi, I've been out of the UK for about 8 years. I've never had a "proper" job there - just a bit of temping, weekend jobs etc. I and DH will be moving back soon.. We both have work contracts and a deposit for a house. Will we be able to get a mortgage?

I don't think you'll have a problem. We moved back after over 8 years in Canada and we have been pre-approved for a mortgage without any problem. All the banks want to see is three month payslips, even more surprising as my OH is self-employed and I don't work (other than looking after the kids).

Thank you. We'd like to buy somewhere within 6 months of getting there. I'm wondering if it will work, but fingers crossed. So we 'll go into a furnished rental for 6 months, then ship furniture from here directly into the new bought place.....

Sounds like a good plan We really didn't think we'd get a mortgage but we went to a place called The Mortgage Shop and the lady there was really helpful.
