Frimley
Hi all,
In November I will be moving to Frimley for a graduate program (therefor graduate salary) I was wondering what kinds of places you would reccomend renting a house in. I do not own a car so I would need to rely on public transporattion to get to and from work. Possibly as close to work (the hospital) as possible or in alternative up to about 30 min by train. I am male, 29, do not really require glamorous night-life but not a ghost town either. as long as there are a few restaurants/bars/ pubs, and a shopping center / few shops to get clothes and such, maybe a cinema i'm fine with it. Also, possibly keep away from the dodgy areas, dont want to live in the "bad part of town". I have no knowledge of the area so any advice would be greately appreciated. Thank you all for your help |
Re: Frimley
Since you are not going to have a car you should be looking at Frimley itself (quite a small town but pleasant enough),and Camberley.
Farnborough is OK, would not recommend Aldershot, Fleet is OK, Crookham area is lovely but the further out you go the more difficult it will be with public transport. |

Heheh now I am jealous.. just noticed your name.. I used to live in SD and totally miss it!!! so far I have found one possible location, Ascot, as it is reasonably priced and 20 min by train.. so overall should be about a 50min-1hour commute to work which is not too bad. Just out of curiosity why not aldershot? I was also considering farnborugh as i saw it has a few interesting things like malls and cinema.. does ascot have anything? wouldnt want to end up in a ghost town, an opions on other forums anre very contradictory.. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!! |

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!! Fleet is nice. A few pubs & crappy club which should be avoided at all costs (unless heavily intoxicated) I lived there too in my junior school years and again have been back lots as I still have friends there. Ascot is very upper crust, loadsa money there. A couple of pubs but not much else. Gets very, very busy during Ascot week where the pubs really fill up and spill out piss heads all over the pavements and onto the trains. Aldershot is known to be pretty rough, although there are nice areas, but I wouldn't live there. Happy to help with other towns in the area I know it pretty well. Good luck :) |

Hi, I wouldn't get too excited by the Farnborough 'malls'. I lived in Farnborough as a kid and have been back a few times since, it still looks exactly the same!

Re: Frimley
Have you looked at Guildford, Woking or Farnham?
Ascot is very near to Windsor and that is a very nice town. |

Re: Frimley
Agree with all of the above, apart from Ascot only having a 'couple of pubs' - there are about 5 just in the town, plus all the shops and cafes etc. I think it's a nice small town, with good transport links, although it is a bit snooty.
Windsor would be a great option though if you can afford it, plenty going on there and a really nice town. Where will you be working? Will it actually be in Frimley? If so, then personally I wouldn't look as far away as Ascot, as there are plenty of places that are closer and just as nice. Plus from a socialising point of view (assuming that most of your fellow workers will live nearer to Frimley) it might not be great. I live near Wokingham, in the middle of the area you're looking at, shout if I can help at all. Good luck with it. |
Re: Frimley
Ok, Ascot does have more than just a couple of pubs, but most are not really 'going out with the lads on a Saturday night' kind of pub. It is a nice town for sitting outside a cafe and watching the world go by. As far as shops go, it's not a town I would go shopping in as there is really only a Budgens, a Martins newsagents and a couple of boutique type shops. I think if I were a single young lad, I wouldn't choose Ascot to live. My opinion.
Windsor - yes. Guildford, Woking, Farnham - yes. Fleet - yes. Camberley - depends where. |

Hi yeah, i saw that camberly is pretty close to where I work and on the trainline for Frimley. are there any areas you would avoid? and why? too expensive? dodgy?
Town is ok, they have built a new part called 'The Atrium' which holds a Vue cinema and some restaurants. Quite good shops in Camberley has something for everyone. Traffic can be horrendous as it's close to M3. I probably wouldn't choose Camberley actually, just something about it. Would rather live in Ascot  |
