Fresh Start
So if you were 30 years of age and your current career could not give you the chance to live in the US how would you start afresh?
I'm guessing finding a company with the chance of an L1, but without specific skills or experience in a certain industry it could be difficult. Buying a business would probably prove very difficult to find a profitable one. So if you were to start again what would be your recommendation to a better life and career? |
Re: Fresh Start
To improve chances of moving to the US, if I was going to start from the VERY beginning... I would be born in the US
:D |
Re: Fresh Start
Or being born in Cuba and being a good swimmer.
The usual option for someone with no skills/money is marriage. |

Re: Fresh Start
Maybe get a student visa to come and study in the USA, hoping it will lead to a US company hiring you after that?

Re: Fresh Start
I dont think my better half over here would like the idea of me hooking up with a USC!
Iam interested to hear what specific careers people would choose. |

Re: Fresh Start
This is so wide open a question, it invites broad, and perhaps less-than-completely-helpful, humourous responses. Even for me and my lawyer-face, the temptation is great. Let's see what I can say:
(1) From a policy standpoint, the immigration system here is set up to give the best rewards to the first-degree relative, the well educated student, the well-heeled entrepreneur, and the accomplished achiever. Thus: (2) If you have a US paramour and are in a bona fide relationship and you are ready for marriage, you might want to consider becoming affianced or married. (3) If you have the means, you could consider seeking admission to a US university and becoming a candidate for a bachelors degree. Note that an associates degree will NOT serve you. (4) Those with enough money might consider buying an already-existing business or creating a new one. Although this can be risky, those who are good or natural entrepreneurs often take this route. (5) People who are at the top of their fields of endeavor -- who have received sustained acclaim at home and internationally -- can get visas, too. That's the field. Hope that helps a little. --J Craig Fong Los Angeles, CA |

Iam interested to hear what specific careers people would choose. And why do you think the US would make a better life for you? Perhaps consider a move around the UK, or the rest of the EU where you don't need to change your life around, or even other countries with more reachable visa requirements like Canada, Oz, SA etc? |
Re: Fresh Start
I don't really mind what I do and not afraid of hard work, but I do intend on earning enough to invest to secure a comfortable retirement in my 50's.
I have a decent job here so could invest each month, but is it worthwhile living a life of misery to retire happy? The UK is crap but I prefer it to Europe, I want to go forward not back! |

Re: Fresh Start
If you were starting again, you would not have a spouse.
