Lightbulb Free Furniture/Items in the UK

I know that money is often tight when one relocates.

In case anyone is interested, check these out:

http://www.uk.freecycle.org/ (not just the UK, other countries too)

http://www.freecycle.org/group/uk (UK regions)

http://www.freemesa.org/search-free-stuff.php (free stuff available globally but there is a UK section)

http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/gb (see list of towns/cities) Most items are for sale, but some items may be available for free or v. cheaply)

Hope this helps!

Good list, EM, I have given away stuff on Freecycle and it's amazing what you see on there. I think it is a wonderful idea that helps reduce landfill and serves the community.

I'd also suggest Gumtree:

http://glasgow.gumtree.com/

(Sorry, this is specific to Glasgow - here's the generic one, just click on a city: http://www.gumtree.com/?hp=1)

- I have also given away and sold on it (it's a For Sale site, but often very cheap and sometimes free). I had a perfectly good widescreen CRT TV I bought second hand for £50 in 2006, and thought "Why dither around haggling with someone over a tenner?" so it ended up going for free to a girl who was setting herself up in her first flat.

I've also bought wardrobes, just bought a big, solid industrial-grade office desk (delivered to my door) from a church. If you live close to a large city, there is a stack of stuff available out there very cheaply!
