Default Free bus pass for pensioner

Just got back to UK. How do I quickly get my bus pass? Not paying council tax yet. What documents must I take to local council?

Info should be on your councils website.

Most libraries have an "access point" and they will do the on-line application for you. You do need proof of address as I remember.

Yes proof of address is needed, council tax bill or utility bill and a passport size photo also you will need a 'proof of age' so a photocopy of your passport details page or driving license.

Probably - but still best to check the local council website.

The one I used to live in wouldn't need the photo. They would however require you to apply in person only during a specified day/time slot, with a completed form, birth cert or passport (or driving license) and proof of address.(bank statement or utility bill less than 6 months old)

Having done this in the last month, we just downloaded the form from the council website and sent it with the proofs listed in my earlier post, took about 7 days to be returned with a shiniey new bus pass.

Can I use a bank statement as one document, as someone else pays the utility bills in their name.

Have you checked your local council website to see what they accept?

Check with your local council as to what is acceptable but I would guess not as bank statements can be sent to any correspondence address established with the bank, whereas a utility bill refers to, and names the address, to which the bill applies.

As old.sparkles says, check your county council website for details. My advice would be, get your new driving license. This is proof of address and residence in the county. I'm pretty sure I sent them a photocopy of my new photo card license and a passport photo, and I got my bus pass by return of post.

ScotGov guidance for those living in SCO is here. Local Council or SPT adminysters the schoool at local level. ScotGov picks up the tab.
