Four million ex-pats "want to return to the UK"
Apparently...

Is anyone here so inclined?
Check out the comments - they're precious. Apparently we made the move overseas because we're cowards, taking the "easy way out". He he.

Well, well, well...having deserted the country they're crawling back to mummy Britannia. Sickening selt-interested moaners. I say put them in holding centres until they've proved they can be of some worth to the UK or deport them. They quit once - who's to say they won't quit again?

Don't much care for their scaremongering exchange rate chart, either. That article is today; todays rate against the dollar is $1.52, not $1.44 on the pound. Euro is 1.11 on the pound today; article says 1.05. Smallprint at the bottom of the exchange rate piece says "Year up to date, as of Aug 2009"....which I am sure was the rock bottom lowest of "recent" times they thought they could reasonably get away with. Good ol' scaremongering UK press at work again...

I noticed this bit in the article:
People buying a currency when it's cheap? Who woulda thunk it?
It has seen an 180 per cent increase in the number of euro to sterling transactions and an 11 per cent increase in the number of U.S. dollar to sterling transactions in the past six months, compared to last year.

Re: Four million ex-pats "want to return to the UK"
The blurb is simply a piece of rehashed 'research' from some currency firm. Could indeed have been done as long ago as the currency table it shows. The sort of 'research' that gives research a bad name and is simply a vehicle for shoving their name under people's noses. If they can't spout out some dramatic figures, the press won't publish.
Thus, 70% of expats want to return? Simply means 70% of the 10 people they asked, from a selection of those customer of theirs who enquired about currency help in moving back home, want to return home. The real news is that 30% of that group, after speaking to them about the rates being offered, decided to stay where they were!

Daily Mail readers aren't happy unless they've got something to hate. When the DM publishes its regular features that push the opposite PoV (new life in the sun is all hunky dory for UK expats etc etc) you'll get comments slagging off people who haven't emigrated for being stupid for putting up with UK life and too lazy to make the effort to improve their lives.

Just think of the tremendous burden you all will put on the system if you return; back to using NHS doctors and hospitals, draining much needed funding so direly needed by all the eastern europeans and western asians. Of course if you all go back all at once it would also put a huge strain on the housing market, driving prices so high that all the afore mentioned poor folk could never afford decent housing; it could actually cause a mini housing bubble there that as we have seen here, when burst could destroy the national/world economy.
